Donald Ross designed the course in 1925 and the traditional layout has retained all of its original character. The golf course weaves through a series of canals that used to carry guests along in gondolas. The canals run alongside the lush fairways while towering banyan trees frame the elevated greens. Offering views of the historic hotel from nearly every hole, there are carts available but the golf course is worth the walk. The layout is popular not only for its historic scenery and verdant setting, but also for its playability. Over the years the Biltmore has been host to a number of professional golfers and celebrities ranging from Babe Ruth to Tiger Woods.
